For Parents

We know that one of the most important factors in a child's success is the influence of their parents. As a parent, it is absolutely vital to encourage the love of reading and make it a habit when your child is young.

Here are some suggestions from the British Columbia Teacher's Federation to get your child "Off to a Good Start in Literacy":
  1. Read early; read often.
  2. Play "I spy" or other word games.
  3. Chant rhyming words with your child.
  4. Visit your public library regularly.
  5. Let your child choose books.
